Bio
Clarke Schmidt is a right-handed pitcher for the New York Yankees, where he has steadily grown into a key contributor in their pitching rotation. Known for his sharp command and competitive edge, Schmidt earned a spot on the Yankees’ Opening Day roster in 2022 and picked up his first Major League win shortly after. Since then, he’s continued to develop as a dependable arm for New York, blending his power with a polished approach on the mound.
Schmidt was selected by the Yankees in the first round (16th overall) of the 2017 MLB Draft after a standout college career at the University of South Carolina. Though Tommy John surgery delayed his professional debut, he returned strong, making his way through the Minors and debuting in the Majors in 2020. Along the way, he pitched for the GCL Yankees, Staten Island Yankees, Tampa Tarpons, and the Trenton Thunder. After overcoming a 2021 elbow injury, Schmidt worked his way back and has since carved out a role with the big league club.
Born in Acworth, Georgia, Schmidt attended Allatoona High School before playing college baseball for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Off the field, Schmidt is admired for his leadership qualities and upbeat personality, bringing infectious energy to the clubhouse. His resilience through injury and consistent growth have made him not just a rising talent, but a respected teammate and competitor.
