James Conner
NFL Runningback, Arizona Cardinals
James Conner turned adversity into fuel–beating both cancer and a major injury while on his way to becoming a Pro Bowl NFL running back. Through faith and perseverance, he uses his platform to uplift cancer patients and inspire others facing their own challenges.
Bio
James Conner is a Pro Bowl running back for the Arizona Cardinals. He played college football at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2015 during his sophomore year. While rehabbing a torn MCL, he underwent chemotherapy and completed his cancer treatment in 2016. He returned to the field later that year and went on to become one of the top running backs in the country.
James was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons in Pittsburgh before signing with the Arizona Cardinals in 2021. He earned Pro Bowl honors in both 2021 and 2024.
In 2020, he published a memoir titled Fear is a Choice: Tackling Life’s Challenges with Dignity, Faith, and Determination, sharing his experience with cancer and the lessons he learned through recovery and football.
Off the field, James is active in the community, with a focus on supporting cancer patients and survivors. He is also committed to his faith and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
