Jerry Stackhouse
Assistant Coach, Golden State Warriors
Jerry Stackhouse, a two-time NBA All-Star, is currently an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors. He brings a wealth of experience from his time leading Vanderbilt’s men’s basketball program and coaching in the NBA G League.
Bio
Jerry Stackhouse is best known for his 18-year NBA career, where he was a two-time All-Star and one of the league’s most dynamic scorers. Drafted third overall in 1995, he averaged 16.9 points per game across nearly 1,000 appearances, led the NBA in total points in 2000–01, and reached the NBA Finals with the Dallas Mavericks in 2006. Stackhouse earned a reputation as a fierce competitor and reliable veteran throughout stints with eight teams, including standout years with the Detroit Pistons and Philadelphia 76ers.
Following his playing days, Stackhouse transitioned into coaching and is currently an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors. He previously led Vanderbilt men’s basketball from 2019 to 2024, guiding the Commodores to back-to-back winning seasons, two NIT quarterfinals, and helping develop multiple NBA players. He earned SEC Co-Coach of the Year honors in 2023 after a 22-win season—Vanderbilt’s best in over a decade. Before Vanderbilt, he was head coach of Raptors 905 in the NBA G League, winning Coach of the Year and a league title, and held assistant roles with the Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies.
A native of Kinston, North Carolina, Stackhouse was a college star at the University of North Carolina under Dean Smith, earning All-America honors and leading the Tar Heels to the Final Four in 1995. A top high school recruit, he left for the NBA after two seasons but later returned to complete his degree. Off the court, he’s known for his mentorship, faith, and leadership, founding the Stackhouse Elite AAU program and completing executive education at Harvard Business School.
