Bio

Mike King is a dynamic RHP and is one of the premiere arms in the Padres starting rotation. King, originally from Warwick, Rhode Island, was a standout athlete at Bishop Hendricken High School. In 2013 he was named Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year for Rhode Island. He continued his baseball journey at Boston College and then played collegiate summer baseball with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2015.

King was drafted in the 12th round of the 2016 MLB Draft and started his professional career with the Miami Marlins. His journey continued with the New York Yankees, where he emerged as a dominant reliever for three years. His playing style characterized by his efficiency and smart decision making on the field allowed him to break out as one of the best starting pitchers on the team in 2023. During that season, he recorded over 100 innings with a stellar 2.75 ERA, ranking fourth best in the MLB for pitchers with a minimum of 100 innings. His exceptional performance included being the only pitcher in the MLB to achieve 5+ saves and 5+ starts. Following his transition to a starting role, King continued to excel, boasting a remarkable 2.23 ERA across nine starts for the Yankees. Now embarking on his journey of being a centerpiece for the San Diego Padres starting rotation, King is ready to continue showing the baseball world why he is considered one of the top-tier arms in the game today.
