Bio
John Isner is an American former professional tennis player, born in Greensboro, North Carolina. Isner attended Walter Hines Page Senior High School where he helped lead the men’s tennis team to a state championship in 2001. He continued his tennis career by earning a scholarship to the University of Georgia in 2003. While attending UGA, Isner was ranked the top tennis player in the country on numerous occasions and reached the NCAA Men’s Singles Finals in 2007. After graduating, Isner turned professional and made his U.S. Open debut in the fall of 2007.
During Isners’ 17-year professional career, he won sixteen ATP titles, was ranked in the ATP Top 10, and spent ten consecutive years in the ATP Top 20. He is known to have one of the most powerful serves in men’s tennis history, reaching 157 mph. At the 2010 Wimbledon Championships, Isner famously defeated Nicolas Mahut in the longest professional tennis match in history. The match lasted just over 11 hours and was played over the course of three days. The final score of the match was 70 – 68.
Isner currently resides in Dallas, TX with his wife and four kids. He enjoys pickleball, tennis, golf, and giving back to the community. He is the President and Founder of the Isner Family Foundation, which he started with his wife Madison in 2020. The foundation has created an endowment fund, which provides financial support for families while their children are under the care of Children’s Health in Dallas, Texas. Isner’s charitable efforts in North Carolina also allowed him to donate the oncology waiting room at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in honor of his mother, Karen, who survived Stage III Colon Cancer.
