Stephanie White
WNBA Head Coach, Indiana Fever
Stephanie White went from being a standout player for the Fever to broadcaster and leading the Fever as head coach, bringing a championship pedigree and 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year honors with her.
Bio
Named head coach of the Indiana Fever in November 2024, Stephanie White begins her second stint at the helm of the Indiana Fever, a franchise where she also saw a successful playing career.
White re-joins Indiana after most recently leading the Connecticut Sun, where she guided the team to back-to-back WNBA Semifinal appearances, posting a record of 55-25 over two seasons. White was named 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year and Associated Press Coach of the Year after a 27-13 record, as well as being named a WNBA All-Star head coach.
Prior to taking up the helm with the Sun, White spent five years at Vanderbilt University, a return to collegiate athletics, having previously served at Ball State, Kansas State and Toledo as assistant coaches.
From 2011 through the 2016 season White enjoyed her first stint with the Indiana Fever in various roles within the coaching staff, rejoining her hometown team and the organization she once played for. As an assistant coach under Lin Dunn, the Fever made four-consecutive WNBA Semifinal appearances, lifting the WNBA Championship in 2012, giving the team its first league title.
Following the conclusion of the 2014 season and subsequent retirement of Dunn, White was named the head coach of the Fever. During her first tenure as head coach the Fever went 37-31, making their second ever WNBA Finals appearance in 2016, while also clinching the playoffs for the 11th and 12th consecutive seasons, respectively.
A graduate of Purdue University, White was drafted into the WNBA by the now defunct Charlotte Sting as the No. 21 overall pick in the 1999 WNBA Draft. After her rookie season, White was acquired by the Fever in the 2000 expansion draft, marking a return to the state of Indiana for the team’s inaugural season. Despite having only played four seasons with the Fever, White currently sits in the top 20 in franchise history in games played (112), assists (225), steals (115) and three- point field goals made (92).
While at Purdue, White helped the Boilermakers win its first, and only, NCAA National Championship in 1999, the same year she was named the National College Player of the Year, Indiana NCAA Woman of the Year, Big Ten Player of the Year, Big Ten Athlete of the Year and was the Wade Trophy recipient. White finished her career at Purdue having amassed 2,182 career points and earning induction into the Purdue Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.
Off the court, White also serves as a basketball analyst for ESPN and the Big Ten Network both in-studio and on the sidelines. She has also worked as an Indiana Pacers Reporter for FOX Sports Indiana.
