Bio
As one of the winningest and most recognizable professional athletes of all-time, Tiger Woods continues to build on his legacy of domination with the characteristic precision and persistence that has helped him redefine golf.
Since turning professional in 1996, Tiger has built an unprecedented competitive career with 106 worldwide wins. He has 82 PGA TOUR wins, tying Sam Snead for most wins in history. His major victories include five Masters Tournaments, four PGA Championships, three U.S. Open Championships, and three British Open Championships. With his second Masters victory in 2001, Tiger became the first golfer ever to hold all four profession major championships at the same time. In winning the 2000 British Open at St. Andrews, Tiger became the youngest to complete the career Grand Slam of professional major championships and only the fifth to ever do so. He joined Jack Nicklaus as the only player to win the Grand Slam twice. Tiger was the youngest Masters Champion at just 21 years old, and his 2000 US Open at Pebble Beach and 2001 Masters victories came by record margins of 15 strokes and 12 strokes. Between 1998 and 2005, Tiger made the cut in 142 consecutive events breaking Byron Nelson’s record of 113. Tiger’s tenacity is a foundational quality to his success as a champion. After recovering from his fourth back operation in 2017, he captured the 2018 Tour Championship for his 80th victory on the PGA Tour. He went on to win the Masters in 2019 and the ZOZO Championship in 2019, the first official PGA TOUR event in Japan. Tiger is the career victories leader among active players on the PGA Tour and is the career money list leader.
His on-course success extends far beyond the 18th green and is mirrored by his elevated and impactful endeavors off the course. The foundation of his professional excellence built his vision for TGR, Tiger Woods Ventures, which unifies his philanthropic and business ventures with a mission to create opportunities and to strive for excellence. In 1996 Tiger founded the TGR Foundation, which focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The TGR Learning Lab in Anaheim celebrated its 10th Anniversary in 2016 with satellite facilities in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Florida. In 2006 he created TGR Design, a full-service golf course design firm dedicated to creating exceptional golf experiences for future champions. Understanding that champions and everyday golf enthusiasts needed a place to recharge through food, fun, and sport, he created TGR Live, an event production company responsible for PGA TOUR events like the Genesis Invitational and the Hero World Challenge.
Tiger grew up in Cypress, California. He appeared on The Mike Douglas Show at just 2 and carded a 48 for nine holes at only 3 years old. Tiger played his first professional tournament at just 16 years old at the Los Angeles Open in 1992. He entered Stanford University in 1994 and in two years he won 10 collegiate events, concluding with the NCAA title. In 2022 Tiger was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame and his legacy of professional excellence continues.
