Bio
Brad Stevens is widely regarded as one of the most thoughtful and strategic minds in basketball. Currently serving as President of Basketball Operations for the Boston Celtics, Stevens’ rise through the basketball world is a story of quiet leadership, unshakable principles, and a deep commitment to team culture.
Before transitioning to the front office, Stevens spent eight seasons as Head Coach of the Celtics, where he became known for his calm demeanor, analytical approach, and ability to get the best out of his players. During his time as Head Coach for the Boston Celtics, he amassed a record of 354-282 (.557) in 636 regular season games that saw the Celtics make three appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals and seven straight trips to the playoffs from 2015-2021. He sits fourth in franchise history for most wins by a head coach. His 78 playoff games coached, and 38 wins, are fifth most in franchise. During his coaching career for the Celtics, he was named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Coach of the Month three times and was also given the honor of coaching the Eastern Conference during the 2017 NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans.
Stevens left a position as a marketing associate at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis to pursue a career in basketball coaching. He served in a volunteer capacity in Butler’s basketball office during the summer of 2000, before eventually gaining a full-time administrative position under Thad Matta. Stevens joined the Bulldogs’ staff in 2000-01 as coordinator of basketball operations, handling a variety of administrative duties. Stevens then worked as a full-time assistant coach under Todd Lickliter for six seasons spanning from 2001-07. During Stevens’ tenure as an assistant coach with the Bulldogs, Butler compiled a 131-61 record, won three Horizon League regular season championships and made four trips to post-season tournament play.
Stevens is deeply committed to family and community. He and his wife, Tracy, are proud parents to their children, Brady and Kinsley, and are active supporters of several charitable causes, including Coaches Vs. Cancer, a cause that holds personal meaning for their hearts following Tracy’s mother’s passing from cancer.
