Jennie Finch
Professional Softball Player and Olympic Gold Medalist
Jennie Finch is an Olympic gold medalist and professional softball player. She made her mark playing for the Chicago Bandits in the National Pro Fastpitch league, earning 2005 NPF Co-Pitcher of the Year honors. Today, she serves as MLB’s first female ambassador.
Bio
Jennie Finch has been a softball trailblazer for her entire career. Finch rose to fame during her years at the University of Arizona, leading the Wildcats to a Women’s College World Series title in 2001 as part of her record setting streak of 60 consecutive wins. She went on to win an Olympic gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and a silver in 2008 in Beijing. During this time Finch developed the first ever softball-specific product — including gloves, bats, batting gloves, and cleats — with long-time partner, Mizuno.
Finch played professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch league from 2005-2009 for the Chicago Bandits, collecting NPF Co-Pitcher of the Year in 2005 after pitching to a .88 ERA with 144 strikeouts and hitting six home runs at the plate.
Now retired, Finch spends time with her family, including her husband and three children, but she is not far from the game. Finch is MLB’s first female ambassador. She works with MLB’s Youth Academies to develop the next generation of softball talent. Each year through her work with MLB she identifies the recipient of the Jennie Finch Empowerment Award, a cash award in support of educational costs. She also works with the Athletes Unlimited Softball League to advance the professional game, and hosts the Jennie Finch World Series to continue to inspire the youngest players in their pursuit of softball excellence and love of the game.
