Former NBA Player and Player Development Coach, Dallas Mavericks
A cornerstone of elite NBA defense for nearly two decades, Tyson Chandler built an impressive 19-year career as an All-Star, Champion, and one of the game’s most formidable interior defenders. Now a Player Development Coach with the Dallas Mavericks, Chandler continues his legacy by mentoring the league’s next generation of players.
Bio
Tyson Chandler is widely regarded as one of the premier rim protectors and defensive anchors of his generation. Over an illustrious career spanning nearly two decades, Chandler built his reputation on elite shot-blocking, rebounding, and defensive leadership. In 2011, he helped the Dallas Mavericks win their first NBA Championship. In 2012, his defense earned him the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award and an All-NBA Third Team selection. That same year, his league-leading 67.9% field goal percentage was one of the best in NBA history.
Originally selected second overall in the 2001 NBA Draft, Chandler began his professional career with the Chicago Bulls, later excelling with the New Orleans Hornets and then the Mavericks. His impact continued with the New York Knicks, where he was named an NBA All-Star in 2013 and earned three All-Defensive Team selections throughout his tenure.
On the international stage, Chandler represented Team USA, helping lead the United States to gold medals at the 2010 FIBA World Championship and the 2012 London Olympics.
Before his NBA career, Chandler was a dominant force at Dominguez High School in Compton, California, where he guided his team to a state championship and earned recognition as both a McDonald’s All-American and a First-Team Parade All-American.
A native of Hanford, California, Chandler’s commitment to excellence extends beyond basketball. He is deeply involved in charitable work, serving as a UNICEF Kid Power Champion and supporting initiatives that empower and inspire youth.
Today, Chandler continues to share his passion for the game as a player development coach for the Dallas Mavericks, helping the next generation of players grow both on and off the court.
